You don't love me anymore.... You're the Best Mom!
With a 4 year old, it's common to hear those two phrases on the same day. I love how easy it is for them to flip flop. The other day, Sierra did NOT want to go to her dance class. They're getting ready for the recital, so they've asked the kids to avoid missing a class. (Sierra isn't sold on the whole performing in front of people thing, but it thrilled with the idea of the costume) She's gotten to the point of tears this particular morning, because I told her that if she didn't go to class, she'd miss out on the costume. She was laying in her bed crying and moaning phrases like, " You don't love me" and "Nobody likes me".. you get the drift. After about 20 min. of this, she comes bounding out and is cheerful as all get out. At this point, it's about 9:25 and class starts at 9:45. I figure I'll try and coax her there. I almost forced her into her leotard and we picked a snack and went off to class. The whole time, she's complaining that she doesn't want to go. We sat down in the studio, and I was putting her ballet shoes on her feet. She is smiling and talking with her friends in the class-comparing pink leotards and shoes. Her teacher came in and Sierra whispers in my ear "Mommy, I DON'T want to be here." I smiled and said that I knew that. Her teacher mentioned butterflies and thankfully we had just seen some live ones at church the day before. So, she was excited to tell her friends about them. At that point, we parted ways. (phew!) I picked her up after class, and there was no mention of her not wanting to go. Well, at dinner we were all talking about the best parts of our day, and Sierra's response was 'going to my dance class".. who would have known....
