We also put our tomatoes in sideways (another SFG tip) and supposedly that gives the tomatoes a better root system. So, we'll see.. lots of new things we're trying. The kids each have their own 'square' that they can plant whatever they want in. Josh is growing corn, Marshall is doing radishes and cucumbers, (and zucchini in another area). Sierra is doing sunflowers(in a separate area) and hasn't decided for her square yet. Katelyn is doing flowers in her area and also has a little strawberry patch on the back patio. I also love how excited the kids have been about gardening this year. They love that they have their own 'area' that is theirs and that we've given them full reign on what to plant. We'll see if they eat it :D. Bary and I are doing tomatoes, banana squash, butternut squash, zucchini, purple peppers, jalapeno peppers, kale, chard, and brussels so far... and I know we'll eat it.

It's that time of year...
I love springtime!! I think it's probably my favorite season. Not too hot and the chill of winter is mostly gone. It's also time for a garden. I LOVE gardens and gardening. We were really sad to have to miss it last year. We did put one in at our house in CA before moving, but left before we were able to really enjoy the fruits of our labor. This year we decided to try square foot gardening. It's a bit of a process to get it started, but less work in the long run. I really think we'll like it more than a traditional garden. We finally got all the components together and built and were able to plant yesterday. I love how neat and tidy it looks.

Looks awesome...we need to get our rear in gear! Although is was snowing just a few days ago here, so I guess I am not too behind. We miss you guys...how is life?
Looks great and I am excited for you--except for the brussels. You can eat them if you want but I will pass.
Our box is getting filled with dirt tomorrow so we can plant our tomatoes and more! Hooray, it's Spring!
What a great idea. I love that the kids are getting into it too. I tried to get my 2 year old to help me plant some things in our back yard, and he was just as quick to "unplant" them by running his fingers through all the rows of dirt & seed. We will see that may or may not pop up as a result.
